Evinrude 50ph VRO prop won't spin??

This weekend, while traveling at top speed, engine kicked up, as if I hit a log, but I was in 40 ft of water--prop quit spinning. No visable prop damage to indicate that I hit something. Engine revs fine but prop wont turn and light "knocking" noise is heard from lower gear case area. Any thoughts? I had just replaced with new prop, and ran about three times with the new prop. I don't think its anything I did when I replaced it but don't know. Your comments are appreciated. Thanks

franklin1864 - Put the boat in gear motor not running and turn the prop by hand. See if the fly wheel turns. If so the lower unit would seem fine. If it doesn't then it could be the gears in the lower unit. Or even the the hub could have spun! Thats possible even on a new prop. If the prop isn't the right size for the boat or motor the prop could be spun on the first try of using it. Too much pressure!<br />steve
