I am in search of a wiring diagram/manual for this motor I am on a shoe string budget on this thing and would love to get it running as in my other post the only thing that I am missing at this point is a SPARK, a wiring diagram would be immensely helpful if anyone out there can assist I would greatly appreciate it. I purchased this boat after having seen it sitting in a field for 5yrs, it's a 71 Hydro Swift 14', crank turns. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Re: Evinrude 55 Triumph info needed

I can't help with a wiring diagram, but I can tell you there are two very likely reasons it's been sitting for so long. Ignition problems and/or shifting problems. Every time one comes in for service, I try to convince the owner that it almost certainly needs a new ignition amplifier. If yours still has the original amp, it does. About $300. So let's put that bad news behind us.

There are two sets of points under the flywheel. Start by cleaning and gapping those, but don't hold out too much hope. There is a lubricating wick that has dried out. Replace it or regrease it or the points rubbing blocks will wear down in no time flat once it's running and you'll lose spark all over again. Always keep battery connections pristinely clean and very very tight. Corrosion and loose connections kill amps.

Onto the gearcase. It's in Forward until it's running and 12v to the shift solenoids actuates the valves to shift it into Neutral or Reverse. You need special electric shift gearlube, although I've read that ATF is OK. Make sure there isn't water in there and that things haven't rusted up. It has an oil pump inside that actually does the shifting. Rust kills those.

There is probably varnish in the carbs. They'll probably need rebuilding. The water pump impeller is rubber and that needs to be changed. Even if it works at first, the rubber has hardened over time and they tend to break with use. Lose the water pump and it's all over.

Now, you wanna tackle this, or maybe look for a better motor worth the effort? This was probably Evinrude's worst model...ever. But when they run right, they're great.
