I am completely new to this engine. The powerhead is in good shape, good
compression on all four cylinders, drivetrain is sound. However, the plugs
show no spark. On the magneto there is a black wire, and there is a
white wire hooked to a little switch on top of the mag bracket.
*These two wires dangle loosely out of the cowling.*
Do these wires hook directly to a battery, or am I going to fry out the coil
trying this... anyone know where they go in the boat, like to a voltage
regulator or something?

Also, when I remove the timing belt, the magneto spins freely, there is
a small charge from the coil, but not enough to create spark; should
there be more 'resistance' from the magnets, or is this free spinning mag
common on these boat motors? I have worked on impulse magnetoes
on tractors, which click while turning, and this seems odd.
Evinrude 60 electric start-- without the starter {pullrope}
