engine is 1995 60hp triple
model BE60TLEOC

i have tried a few props now and my engine seems to be limited to 5700 rpm's

i have been told by a few people that the limiter is somewhere between 6250 and 6750rpm.

what could be the reson for me not being able to reach atleast 6,000rpm ?
the boat is light and props have ranged from 13.5 x 15 pitch to 12.75x23 pitch.
ive also tried a 13x19 stainless and still getting the same max revs.
the engine gets to this top rpm very easy and very quickly.

the rev range for the engine according to the manual is 5500 - 6000rpm.

anyone have any ideas on this issue ?

i know these engines came in 50hp 60hp and 70hp variants and from what im finding on parts its just carb differences.

would it be the carb size is stopping me getting more rpm's and the 5700 im getting be about right ?

my boat planes nice from around 3000rpm with 2 people onboard and from 3,000 to 5700 is very quick with
whatever propeller i seem to put on it.

ive even had a 13.75 x 23 semi-cleaver but this just gets to 5400 due to not being up high enough.

any help will be good on this.

I wouldn't wind it any higher than 5700. That's a good number. They should do just about that and stay healthy.

They do have a rev limiter. What it is set at, I don't know.

5700 rpm dont sound right at all to me.

i can get 5700 with a 13x19 pitch prop stainless sst
5700 rpm with a 13x17 pitch omc ali
and 5700 with a 12.75x23 pitch prop omc ali .......
this cannot be right for all 3 props to get same revs, something must be stopping it surely ?
i could understand if the 15 pitch was higher revs than the 19 for example, but it dont seem to be.

i dont know if there is a way of telling if this engine has a low limeter on it ?

this is the later 56ci engine not the older 49ci,
tommorow im gonna strip the carbs down and have a good look at them anyway as i definitley got a bit of dirt later in day when trying it out
anything under 3,000rpms was terrible and seemed like a cylinder wasnt firing, once it got over 3000 rpm it went fine again.

this was a couple hours after testing the props though, at that time everything was running fine.

Re: evinrude 60hp max revs 5700 ?

was the commercial ignition rev limter lower than the standard limiter on these engines ?

why i ask this is because every where i look it says the limiter is around 6700 rpm.
now im 1,000 lower than this and am wondering if a commercial limiter was fitted as this engine came from a navy cadet group when i bought it.
it was one of a pair of engines the other one i have for spares due to bad bores and pistons etc.

is there a part number to look for on the slower limiter cdi packs ?
