evinrude 6hp Shfting issue

model 6704 1977. When starting the motor only stop clicks on the throttle, seems to be play through start, shift, and slow. Have to hold on fast when starting to have an idle. Good compression, revs well, adjusted the lean and rich (where should it be set) What could this be ?

slow speed adjust: screw in all the way and 1.5 turn out and start to adjust.

next as i understand :when you start pulling rope the timing base is moving and trotle grip moves?
clean all staf, take out flywhel and clean under, but dont oil plastic washer(bearinf under timing plate)

It seems that the slow speed aka lean and rich is adjusted well. When shifting on the throttle, you only hear a click on the stop when turning to the far right, not at at any other speed/start/shift. Thus I start it and you have to immediately push to fast for it to idle. Where as we should be able to start it on start let it idle, then turn to fight to shift hearing a click and then going to fast or slow speed. So perhaps its not shifting if it not clicking?

Shifting on the throttle? Doesn't make sense. If the throttle goes toward stop when you release the handle, you likely have a coil that's not mounted correctly, and moving the armature plate when the coil hits the flywheel magnet. Is that what you mean?

There should be a throttle friction adjustment too to hold the throttle.

Yes it vibrates/moves towards the stop once started so what you described would make sense
. So of it is the coil being mounted wrong, how would I know which one and how to mount it correctly. I ordered a manual that isnt here yet would be a help to me in doing this. Where would the throttle friction adjustment be located I also read that the spring, washer, and friction block in handle could be worn ?
