evinrude 6hp........what plug?

i have inherited what i belive to be a '68 rude 6hp. it has a model #6802c and is called a "fisherman".<br />i was wondering if anyone knows what type of plug and gap this motor requires? any help would be appreciated. thanks

Welcome ti iboats. :) <br /><br />You're right about the year. It takes a J4C Champion gapped .030" and you premix at 50:1.

Yes. The J4C is a much cooler plug, BB. Almost no small water cooled 2 strokes use anything hotter than a J6C.<br /><br />You might use a J6C for trolling and low speed operation. If you are gonna run her hard use the J4C that WillyB recommends.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

Boatbuoy - this site seems to have the latest recomendations for J/E plugs:<br />Sparkplugchart<br />I've seen quite a few misleading suggestions from the championsparkplugs site, so take what you see there with a grain of salt.
