Hello all,
I have recently become the owner of a 7.5 but it does not have any spark. There are 2 sets of plugs on this motor that don't go anywhere this is probably my problem.
1 is a 4 wire 2 brown 1 white 1 black
Other is a 3 wire 2 Orange 1 brown.
Can some one tell me where they go or send diagram of what belongs attached to them.
Thank you ALL

Re: Evinrude 7.5 Wire harness

What year? (or model number)

Is it an old one from the 1950s or one from the early 1980s. If the latter is the power pack missing. That has two plugs that might connect to the two you have. Don't know the colours of the wires off hand though.

Re: Evinrude 7.5 Wire harness

MODEL # E8RC1C
SERIAL # E0005521
fROM WHAT I HAVE GATHERD FROM THE INTERNET IT WAS MADE IN 1983
Can you tell me the part Number if you know it?
Thanks for the reply.
If possible how about a picture of the part. The 1 plug is a half circle 4 pins
the other is a half circle with three pins.
Thank you again this helps me alot.

That model number is 1981. CI are the date letters for 81. 83 would be CT.

The power-pack is the black unit with the exclamation mark symbol on it bolted to the cylinder head in the picture below which is of an '84 6hp Yachtwin (rectifier on that too ... the round thing and all the wires on the terminal strip)

The diagram HERE shows the power pack as #11.

Note there are also two clips that go with the plugs #3 and #4

The parts list with part numbers to accompany the diagram is HERE

The ground lead you can see in my picture is connected under one of the securing bolt heads.

I guess you'll also need the fixing bolts.

I hope I am right and that solves your problem

Re: Evinrude 7.5 Wire harness

Yea the motor did start but will not idle, Idles sometimes then it just won't start up again. If i spray starting fluid in the carb it will start right up. So i Think my carb needs a cleaning or the gall ball, float is stuck causing it to not get gas.
I also have another question on the throttle handle is a button at the end that will kill the motor, But on the out side of that is the idle cap the you screw in or out, that part has a piece of plastic that goes in the handle, mine is broken how does screwing in that cap adjust the idle?

The motor does run when it wants to i had it running for 15 minutes checking it over turned it off then tried again and nothing. HAS SPARK, it hurts too....

Thanks Dale

Re: Evinrude 7.5 Wire harness

The screw thing on the and of the tiller is the idle speed adjust but it is only a stop that limits the travel of the mechanism inside the twist grip. Unscrew it and you can throttle down a bit lower. Once set to give the right idle speed it is not something you would normally alter.

It takes quite a bit of screwing to have much effect

Re: Evinrude 7.5 Wire harness

Vic, I appreciate the responce, But i dont get how that effects the idle, the cap at the very end is nothing more then a short to the coil ? correct.
Then the plastic screw cap that holds in that button doen not have anything attached to it. All that is in the handle is 2 wires and the throttle cable that goet to the tiller handle. I guess i have to get the book for it that would help alot. But as for the gas problem i have to think my carb is bad for the motor runs great at times and then it just gets an attitude and wont start. Can some one post a picture of what is inside the throttle handle to make sure nothing is missing.
Thanks Dale
