Re: Evinrude 74-76 135 v4

I have located two motors to purchase that I think are good "old motors". One is a 1976 cross flow 135 evinrude, the other is a 1987 looper 120 hp. All things being equal (albeit age;both are being sold by reputable mechanics for about the same coin). Assuming all things equal except engine design, reliability, etc... Which one would be preferable?

The later model looper would be my choice hands down. Not taking anything away from the crossflow as it's definately a fine motor, the later model motors, say after '84 I think are hp rated from the output of the lower unit, whereas the older is rated for hp at the crankshaft. Also, I just like the looper v-4's better, than the crossflow motors. Just my opinion. Chief :)

Those two motors arent even in the same class. While both are excellent motors the looper will have a ton more torque. Regardless where and how you read horsepower. If they're both about the same $$, its a no brainer.
