My son has asked me to prep this motor that came with a lake house he recently purchased. I am wondering if it will be worth it. The motor appears to be uncared for. I drained the lower unit and water came out with the oil. I was planned on decarbonizing with Deep Creep/Sea Foam and go from there. I had it in a tank/drum to start, and it started right up. I don't know enough to change the water pump, but I would guess this should be done. Does anyone have an educated guess what a dealer would charge to check this motor out?

if the lower unit can be dropped without removing the head, i'd say $150. but that motor at it's age probably needs coils, points, condensers. but yes is the lower unit is good. the motor is well worth repairing. and should be a good runner for another 40 years. check compression.
