Hello everyone

I have an old Evinrude 9,9 hp 1976, it has almost never been used because there is a damage on the lower unit causing the gear to be stuck i fwd.. The damage looks like it is coming from the inside..., might have frozen one winter mayby. Anyway I am looking to buy a used lower unit but I need to know what to look for, what I can use. From what year to what year, 9,9 and/or 15hp ? Johnsond and/or Evinrude?
All help will be appreciated

74-92, lower units should all be the same. If I were you i'd pull the gearcase off and check it out before spending money, might be something simple.

Hello
Thank you for the reply. What you are saying is that all evinrude and johnson 9,9 and 15 hp from 1974 - 1992 have the same lower unit? Great!
I will check the gear but I will have to replace the lower unit anyway, this has a hole..
Thanks

True, and if you buy a carburetor for a 15 then you have 15 hp to boot.
Gearcases can be bought cheaply if you watch ebay. I bought a 15 gearcase for
$25 plus shipping last winter, but you may pay $150-200 during the summer months when demand is up. You can get a carb for $50-$200, depending on the season. Note that switching from 10 to 15 hp is the same % increase (20% speed increase) as in switching from 100 to 150hp.
