Hi, I have a 1986 evinrude 90hp, motor will start and runs really good (5500rpm) but when it get hot it will die on me (shut off completely). If I run 5500rpm for about 10 minutes motor will lose power, rpm star dropping until motor goes off, after that there is no way to start the motor ageing until it get cool. I was thinking maybe a power pack but I thing maybe the motor should start right -up with one power pack. Any idea why is doing this? Is there any way to test these parts without running the motor? How about the stator or the rectifier what do you think? I know it is no a fuel problem. Please any Help I will rely appreciated.

Re: Evinrude 90hp any help please

Hello,

I have the same engine. I cant get mine above 4000 rpm while in gear. If its out of gear i can get more. Anyone know what I can do to fix that? Also I can never get it to start with just a turn of the key, even after Its warmed up and running for a while. I always have to give it throtle. Its not the spark plugs, I've changed them. Any help for these problems would be greatly appreciated.

Ks2hlq,
I had the same starting problem with my motor. I finally did figure it out what I was doing wrong. What I do know is this: before starting the motor, I will turn the key but not all the way to start the motor just half way then I’ll bring the throttle lever up half way I’ll push the key in ones and let go (Don’t hold the key in to long or you will over floe you carburetor) then I’ll start the motor, motor will start right up, if you think the motor will want to go off just push the key in once before the motor goes off and just keep doing the same until you get use to it.

Kc2hlq, With this motors you will have to bring the throttle lever up to a quarter or half way before starting the motor all the time. This is the way I’ll do it and never fail my motor will start right away if I do it like this. Hope this help.
Thanks
