I am replacing the small plastic end of the manual tilt cable. While at it, I'm wondering if I should/can be doing any other maintenance. While I have been rinsing well and applying WD40 after each trip, it has been getting stiffer to operate. Is it possible to (and should I) change the fluid? Is it possible to get the knurled knob off? Earlier post looked to be cut off right when they got to the good part.

Many thanks

Welcome to iboats.

There isn't much maintenance you can do with those. They're just not very servicable. One of the frequent failures that can be avoided is at the valve where the cable meets the unit. If water gets in there and freezes, it'll damage the area and render the unit useless. I like to coat the parts in there liberally with grease, but you can't fill that area completely with anything or the valve won't pull.

Another common problem is scale or paint on the ram shaft getting down into the seals and tearing them up. Then it's time for a replacement unit. Sounds like you already have that one covered.

Many thanks for the advice. I'll check out the valve mentioned.
