1993 50 HP Evinrude, model VE50TLETF.

Worked last year, started flaking out this year. Reservoir is topped up. Tilt motor spins... Sounds like fluid is moving. If I help it up, by lifting while using power tilt, it will raise and stay in place. Underway trim does not work (engine does stay in place though), but if I come to a stop it does work (to a small extent). For now I'm leaving it down.

Seems to me pump is not generating enough pressure. Is this a good assumption? Is this something that can be tested? Rebuilt?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Eric

Well it's been a while since I made this post and I still have the problem...

So hopefully it's not bad etiquette if I give it a bump.

Thank you.

Thank you. I've been keeping my eye on T&T threads... Did not see that one, but it's worth a try.

I have checked my bypass, and it's tight. Since the motor stays in position, I've ruled that out. Bleeding sounds like an easy enough thing to try.

If the motor lifts in reverse there is a leak some where. Most of the time the manual release valve has a o ring on it if you've been messing with that the o ring probable has gotten nipped or cut. They need to be super tight .to replace the o ring you have to take the clip washer off(not easy with TT mounted on the motor) after that bleed the system.
See top secrete file. you may have to bleed it several times ( up to 20) let it sit between bleeds.there only 2 things that can make a TT stop working if it was, manual release and low fluid (beside electrical componates0

Thanks bignefan.

The only thing I did with the manual release is to make sure it was tight. Took my big screwdriver and made sure it did not budge turning it CW. It didn't. This problem occurred without me ever touching the release, so it did not go bad through use, but maybe on its own? I'll be out at the boat tomorrow. I'll try a few of the ideas.

Thanks,

Eric

Re: Evinrude '93 50HP Tilt and Trim not working

So I was at the boat this weekend (Saturday) and the motor is still tilted up (the boat is docked and on slings). Last weekend, to get it up, my wife trimmed up while I pushed on the motor. This weekend the motor is still up, so it seems the cylinder is good. I did not have a chance to try bleeding it, but at this point, unless there is air in the system, it really does seem like the pump.
