I have an Evinrude Angler 5HP, around 1965, that runs fine until 3/4 throttle then it begins to misfire. At full throttle I
completely loose a cylinder. New coils, points, condensers and plugs have been installed. What is the correct procedure
for gapping the points? The cam shows a 'TOP' indicator slightly before MAX deflection and yet the flywheel and 'stator plate?'
also have reference marks. Which crank position should be used. Is a gap of 20 thou correct? Is it possible the cam is worn to
the point it will never run properly? How can I tell? Is there an electronic device available similar to a dwell meter that would assist me?

Thanks for the help.

Check worn worn wobbly timeing plate (?)The part the coils rotate on. My guess is you have a problem with armature to flywheel clearence or
a point gap change.Possibly a low tension or hi tension wire rubbing somewhere as the throttle is advanced. Good luck,
Spike
