evinrude carb

I have a 18 HP evinrude fastwin (1968)can it be changed to 25 HP by simply changeing the carb?<br />Im thinking to buy a carb of evinrude sportster from 1971 or johnson 25 from the same year. <br /> Thanks

My guess is no.It might depend on the year.<br /> My manual from the late 60s indicates the <br />18 and 20 are the same bore and stroke so you may<br /> be able to get 20.Late 60s 25 and 28 are<br />different from the 18/20 motors.<br /> 69 -72 18/20/25 (as far as my manual goes) are the same displacement but I doubt if it is only a carb change to 25 hp.Someone should be along soon with details.

steelspike...don't know for sure but I think there was a change in reed cages also. Ain't at the shop with by books. Going off memory (what there is of it)<br /><br />OBJim
