Hey everyone. I have a 1988 Evinrude 70 HP 3 cyc 2 stroke outboard on my little 17'1968 MFG- The Sea Relic.
She's all slipped up for the season and I took her out today. I've disconnected the VRO and premix it 50:1. She's got new correctly gapped plugs, bulbs and lines. I haven't changed the fuel filter yet. I also decarbed her real good last week.
I took her out of the slip and put her into gear,
idling nicely and moving at a nice no wake speed.
Got into the sound, trimmed her down and tried to hit the throttle - she dies right out. Tried a couple times same result. So I crusied back to the dock. Could it be it needs to warm up more before trying to throttle up? Will the choke help her pick up? Or does it sound like an adjustment problem or time for a carb rebuild?

That problem indicates fouled carbuetors or a sticking timer base which is located under the flywheel. If choking momentarily causes a increase in rpms/speed, the problem is the carburetors.

Hi Howard!

Glad to see you have registered at iboats. This is THE place to get the answeres you need. Other than the problem with the motor, how is the rest of that MFG holding up?

Mark.
