Since 2003 the Engine FAQ B. Article has been about decarbing with Sea Foam.

FAQ De-Carb article

I just got my annual order of Sea Foam Motor Treatment and Sea Foam Deep Creep from Midway Auto Supply in Dallas, and I thought that I should ask for an update from the forum.

Anything new in the decarb business? Don't be shy, please. My old motors are counting on you.

EZ

the product that i use is made by mercury and is called engine cleaner or power tune.i asked the parts lady for decarb spray and this is the only product they sell.ingridients are petroleum solvent, petroleum gases, oleic acid, methyl isobutyl carbinol,2-butoxyethanol and ammonia...sounds like good stuff!

I personally feel this is not required annually unless there is a specific issue with carbon build-up in your engine due to the way its operated. But then it won't hurt anything either. Running SeaFoam in the fuel will help reduce decarb frequency.

To Upinsmoke,
Thanks, I buy the products that I use in bulk because I am retired (or retireded as the case may be) and I get to be the supply source for a rather large and extended family of related boaters. Our season is pretty limited so we try to cram a lot of stuff into a few months. We all use Johnson and Evinrude outboards except for the I/O which are Mercury.

I use SeaFoam in everything including all my small engines. They never give me a hint of problems. I gave my two-stroke LawnBoy mower an enema with SeaFoam last spring. It's amazing how much smoke you can make with a lawn mower.
