E-Tec shows a saltwater series on their websiteOriginally posted by walleyehed:
I may be mistaken, but I thought the E-TEC was for use in ANY water......All had the same anti-corrosion protection...maybe I'm wrong...????
Better!Originally posted by BillP:
Thanks for the info seahorse. Are the Bomb motors as corrosion proof as OMCs used to be?
Wow, that's pretty good. Hey, are you the "seahorse" in Florida? Canaveral area?Originally posted by seahorse:
Better!Originally posted by BillP:
Thanks for the info seahorse. Are the Bomb motors as corrosion proof as OMCs used to be?
Last year I purchased an ETEC 90 HP Saltwater edition with 20" shaft, so it is not primarily the shaft length. I believe they do use a few more SS components, a slightly different aluminum alloy, and do some additional prep work on the paint.

But you're right - any motor will work OK in salt water, if properly cared for. My last motor was a 1991 90 HP Johnson off a Bass Tracker, and I used it constantly in salt water without a problem.

Interestly enough, their 25" shaft has a different final gear ratio than the 20" shaft (2.25:1 vs 2.0:1). Not sure why...Originally posted by seahorse:
Bombardier generally considers the 20" shaft motors as "freshwater" engines and the 25" & 30" motors as "saltwater" series.

All the Evinrudes have stainless steel tilt tubes, hardware, etc. and CAN be used in both types of environments.
