Hello Members, I'm brandy new to the forum. I came across this site again in my search for some possible answers and of course an education. I've searched the forum threads and see there is a lot of talented members here. I hope to be able to add some good input myself in the future and hopefully help out where needed. Right now i'm searching for some input on my new to me: 2017 Evinrude E-tech 90HO Model # E90HSXAFI.

This unit was a new old stock, purchased last July (7/2020).
It's on a 2011 18' May-Craft CC that I picked up in May.
So a rundown of my issue at the moment is as follows:
The other morning set up to go fluke fishing. She started first turn, ran fine about 8 miles to fishing grounds, made a few passes, shut down re-started many times. At the next point when had initial problem. hard to start and keep idle, finally started and the alarm sounded with the CHECK ENGINE light stayed on. was able to get back to berth.
Some findings, that was the first time I let the gas get down to aprox. 1/4 tank. so I pulled filters. The Boat Fuel filter had a lot of water in it. The Engine filter had some water in it causing the probes to activate the check engine light and alarm.
I pulled the fuel sending unit out and pumped out as much fuels I could. Got most of the water that was on bottom of tank and a lot of the fuel. I changed both filters Boat fuel water seperator and the Engine spin on filter as well. I also changed out the plugs, hopefully I indexed them correctly. After everything was buttoned up she started right up no more alarm or check engine light. I took her out to test but she stalled about 10 minutes out. was able to start up but could not keep it at idle. I un-spun filters to make sure the threads did not cross, re installed them all looked good. pumped up the ball (also did that after filter change). Got it started but stalled again after a couple minutes. thats where I'm at right now, I did get it to idle and ran it up to 4k rpms in neutral thinking might have some water in line after the filter. but still takes many tries to start. I turn key on for a at least 30 seconds after all lights go off then pump up ball again and again then try to start after 5th or more times she idles for a couple minutes then stalls again.
anyone have any idea or what I'm missing or forgot to do? Thanks

Did you install the motor yourself ?----Did you follow a procedure to set this motor up.---Like verify that lube system is ready to operate, no air in the lines ?

No I did not.
The Motor was installed by an Evinrude dealer prior to me.
The oil system is set up and in service, I probably should have noted the oil tank is full..
Thanks racerone,

All the idiot lights are off at this time...They all do work when keyed on during com test. The only light that came on at first was the check engine light. After the filter change and didn't detect water in filter the light remained off.

1- you need the manual to service your engine

tech lights are one thing there are four on the EMM you need to consult

you should get yourself the diagnostic software to check fault codes or have a dealer plug in and give you a report

after lights off on the tach that engine should start instantly

water in fuel is not good for injectors feed it some EV engine cleaner

1/200 oil mix is highly recommenced to keep injectors running

folks on the ETEC owners group board can help out and you have a good search program for known problems

A Manual Is on top of my wish list...

No codes present after the water removed and new filter installed.

Appreciate the info on the Barnacle Bill's Forum. I'll check it out.

Thanks Crosbyman.

Great Site, Thanks
Finding any Manuals on the the 2017 is almost impossible, WT.....f...
I did check with a certified Evinrude dealer for the service manual $405
+ shipping & tax... (WHAT) its part# 5009019

An update on findings:
Turns out the fuel Pump was the problem, Changed out the old with a new one also new filters. Put in new plugs too, might've been unnecessary but I wanted to start fresh, being this boat is new to me. Did the water cause the pump to fail...??..not certain. It does run better, I'm lucky the (probably shouldn't say anything) inj etc ors weren't affected, (knocking on my head).
I know I spelled them wrong but you get the idea!!

I am not certain but even your 2017 75HP is much like earlier version mechanically and... hopefully wiring wise you can get free downloads or cheap downloads . Some procedures probably have not changed much

With Evinrude dying out you should consider getting the EV diagnostic software version 5.1- 5.9 if only to access fault codes the help out solving issues . It is available at IBOATS or Net sellers . I had some issues loading it on my PC but everything worked out fine with help ...:)
