I could not start my motor last weekend. After draining the battery, the starter was still trying to turn after I turned the key to the off position. I had to remove a lead on the battery to make it stop. Is this normal with a very low battery?

I have not changed the spark plugs in about a year. Can this cause starting problems? What else can cause a motor not to fire? Coils?

I'm counting on the spark plugs I just bought but after that, I will rely on the forum and other areas on iboats to troubleshoot starting problems.

Thank you,

Netsomnia

same motor E50TLEOD

that link is dead....any chance there's more info on trouble shooting a no start condition? I ran the boat last week. Went to start it today and there's no spark. I'm guessing ignition coil maybe but before throwing parts at it I'd like to see if there's something else I should check. It's had a habit of blowing the 25 amp fuse on the motor which puzzles me. I haven't figured out what that fuse is for but being a 25 amp fuse I'm assuming it's ignition related. Any chance the coil has been going bad and spiking blowing that fuse and now it's completely bad? Last week the boat ran like it was brand new.

read the TOP SECRET FILE > 1st thread in this forum. the fuse is for the ignition circuit, trim n tilt, ignition switch. do you have a kill lanyard? did you check it.

have not checked the kill lanyard.....will do that tomorrow. The kids were in the boat playing so maybe one of them messed with that lanyard. Never even crossed my mind to check it. Sure wish it would be something that simple but I know my luck.....tons of it and it's all bad. :D
I read through that file some and will go back and do some reading/searches and see if I can get it figured out. Thanks for the reply.

not the lanyard. Can someone tell me what #20 in this diagram is called? On a car I would think this is considered the distributor but on a boat engine who knows. There's no discription for it at the site.
Also, if the admin prefers I can start a new thread....just thought perhaps this would be on topic to the OP's thread and would save someone else some time if they do a search like I did and find this thread.
