Evinrude Eastwin tiller handle mount

Evinrude Eastwin 18 HP. The tiller handle mount on the engine has one broken mount on the inside. The circular area the tiller<br />handle pins mounts into. It appears to be cast aluminum. What can be done to repair this?<br />

Hi Gus,<br /> Best way to fix it is to replace the whole base part. It requires partial disassembly of the motor, but it's not as bad as it sounds. You can likely find a good used base at your local marina if they'll let you poke around the graveyard. If they don't have a graveyard, ask where they send their junque. Parts also turn up on eBay all the time...<br /> It's possible to weld it if you've got all the pieces, but it won't be as strong and it'll look like crap.<br />- Scott
