I am about to get my grandfather's old boat. Its a Lone Star 16' v-bottom boat. It also has an Evinrude Fastwin Eighteen motor. i was wondering if anyone could tell me the year of it. the serial # is 1502402569. And I was also wondering if anyone could suggest a good Repair manual. I've never done anything on boats before, and I am probably going to have to do a bit of work on both engine and boat to get them seaworthy.

Hi, Fergulus.

We need the model number to ID your engine.

After you know what you have you can get an aftermarket Repair Manual here. Click on Repair Manuals at the bottom of the page.

Good luck. :)

Re: Evinrude Fastwin 18 hp

I just reviewed the other posts, and i gather that the first 5 numbers of the serial is the model #. That would make this engine's model number to be 15024.

And thanks for the tip about the repair manual. Like I said i haven't ever done any boat work, and haven't fully checked out this website.

Here are some pictures of the motor.
http://www.geocities.com/fergulus2002/boat/motorsidel.jpg

Your model 15024, 18 HP is a 1968 year model. I have a used factory shop manual for a 1970 18 HP Evinrude. I believe that the 1968 and 1970 were almost identical. Some smudges and yellowing from age but otherwise in very good condition. $15
Email for parts and other info: linda@nu-z.net

I dont think that that year can be right. I've talked with my father, and he said that the motor was urchased well before 1968. Also, the design indicates a 50's style that i havent seen in 60's models.

I've got some pictures of the motor at the address below. If you can't get them, email me @ fergulus@ev1.net

http://www.geocities.com/fergulus2002/boat/

1964 - 1968 were cosmetically the same but the inner workings were nearly identical going back into the 50's. It's definately pre-64. With the exception of pulling the flywheel (which can be removed with a heavy ball-pean hammer while someone hold the motor above the ground), working on the motor is a piece of cake! I found repair manuals at the local library easily. The Johnson 20 hp is the same motor as well except for the carb.

I don't think that is right about "the first 5 numbers being the model number." That doesn't add up here.

Anyway, on a search of a site that lists OMC models "1997 and earlier" it would not come up with anything on those numbers.

You might try emailing tim@secondwave.cc
He has answered some people's questions about looking up motors by serial number.

Thanks alot.

The year 1957 fits with my father's memory.
Now I can start the task of getting a manual, along with transfering the boat to where I live! :D
