HI!
Ihave a pair of 2000 evinrude ficht 200hp.
i'm having a problem. i was running at 3000 rpm for and hour or so and then i'd to slow down and the port engine died at 1000 rpm. with no alarm and the water pressure ok and the temp ok. but the 3 lights appear inmediately and the engine was dead. after 10 minutes i openned the switch and the 3 ligths delayed 10 seconds to appear. after 15 minutes it took 35 sec to the 3 lights to appear. and after 20 minutes there were no lights and the engine start and run fine.
i went to de mechanic and put the computer on it. no codes were registered. all systems ok. all the static tests went ok.
then i had the impeller changed & water (cooling)sistem checked. i also had the water vapor separator cleaned. it has no obstruction and the water pressure was ok. he conclude no overheating...then the same happened again. it took 20 minutes to start again, but after that it runs great. my mechanic says it was the EMM. what do you think? please help!

After the motor quit and you then turned the key to ON, did you hear the electric fuel pump run for about 5 seconds? Did the motor crank over then but not start up, or did turning the key do nothing?

the engine runs ok, but after an hour or so, when i speed down at 1500 or less rpm the engine dies, no alarm or light. when i turn off and on the switch the lights all light up & beep then turn off one by one in sequence but after 3 seconds they light up again (all together) & no crank. (no flashing)
after 5 minutes off i turn the switch on and all happens again but the lights delay 10 seconds to light up, no cranck.
after 10 minutes, it took the lights 17 seconds to reapear again. (no cranck)
after 15 minutes, it took the lights 25 seconds to reappear again. (no cranck)
after 20 min. it took the 3 lights 36 seconds to reappear again. (no cranck)
and finally after 24 minutes no lights and the engine start & run fine like nothing happened.
weird isnt it?? it seems that the engine is cooling down, but never beep any alarm before it dies

Re: evinrude fitch emm problem?

It's kind of hard to tell without going through the troubleshooting sequence, but you may have 2 problems.

The self test lights should always come on and turn off one by one every time you turn the key on. The electronics for those lights are inside the System Check gauge. Unless there is a voltage problem to them, they should work every time without delay. They are not part of the EMM on the motor (when self testing).

Your motor quitting when it slows down may be a stator or EMM problem that is not allowing the 40 volt system to operate at low speeds. The injectors need a good supply of power to operate. Troubleshooting techniques are needed here to make sure.

The troubleshooting sequence is what is outlined in the service manual and what a trained mechanic does with the correct tools and equipment to find the malfunction.

Hi guys, enyone resolved this problem??? I am having the same issue!!! When the 3 lights are up is not possible to connet with the diagnostic software, is like the EMM is turned off or disable.

Re: evinrude fitch emm problem?

I have seen the three lights lit on the smartguage and found that the EMM is dead. It sounds as if your EMM is getting warm and a board or component is making a break inside the EMM. As it cools the break is reconnected until the engine is warm again. I have seen this type of problem on a number of EMMs.

I may be off the mark completely here. The best thing to do is to have a shop hook up Evdiags and take it for a run until the problem occurs.

Hey Tcarrion,

You are stepping on a 7 year old posting here. That is not good internet manners.

Start a new thread if you want answers but I'd say your engine computer is bad and has to be repaired.
