Evinrude fuel line loosing prime

Hi everyone took boat out today and all was going fine until we stopped to fish. When we started motor to move it ran for a minute then then started to shut down . I looked back at the fuel filter and it was empty so I pumped the bulb and got it flowing again . I didn't think much of it but it happened again and while we were running. Is this just maybe a clogged filter or could it be the pump going bad ? I don't know much about about O/B's so I appreciate any help!

Will it keep running if you keep pumping the primer bulb ?? A model # would also help.

Also was it a portable tank or a permanantly mounted one?

If you have a portable tank or permanent one, check the ends of the fuel lines that clip onto the fuel fitting on the motor and the tank (unless the hose is clamped to a barbed fitting for a permanent tank. Sometimes the O-rings inside the fittings will crack, and you'll get air, and it will loose it's prime. I see this more often than I care to admit to. Also check to see if your primer bulb is working properly. They work like a one way valve, but if it primes up, that's probably not what's wrong. The fuel pump is probably working because you claimed the fuel filter was empty, so that would indicate to me that it is working. I'd check over your fittings first. Also check your lines under the hood. Make sure your clamps are tight and you don't have any cracked lines.

First thing I would do is pump it up really good and check for leaks, if you have any air leaks it will lose prime since fuel is pulled to the engine rather than pumped from the tank.

If you have no leaks check your vent in your tank to make sure it is open and last try pumping the bulb with it running, if it stays running it is more than likely the fuel pump
