Re: evinrude fuel pumps

OMC did not make a 140 in 1975, it was a 135 crossflow. The 140 crossflow engines came out in 1977. The 1995 130 is a big bore looper. Theoretically you can change the pumps and it will work. The problem is that the early 140 pump mounts to the side of the block and gets it's pulse from a drilled hole in the block. The VRO pumps get their pulse though a hose that is plumbed to a hose barb in the side of the block. They are not compatible with each other without some type of modification or by using a different old-style 3 port pump (see the 1972 125 pump.) Then there is the possibility that the old style pumps won't supply enough fuel for the larger 130 engine. You have another option. Bombardier makes a replacement VRO pump which has the oil side removed. You would have to premix your gas and oil. That pump saves you about $100 over the price of a complete VRO pump ($438).
