Here's a pic, can someone tell me the year by the graphics... And, does Evinrude use the same Introduces as Johnson or is there a different way to decode the model number on the i.d. plate? Last question--did Evinrude do the vro thing in the 80s? thanks-

Here's the BRP website that can give you the year. You can switch between Evinrude and Johnson on this site as well.
Start with the ID tag on the side not pictured and then search through the late 80's into the early 90's.
These are the years that I believe your motor is from. Without looking at the ID tag itself, we couldn't really give you a better answer than that.

So your ID tag might go something like this E70TLCCA for instance, that (the example given) is a 1988 Evinrude 70 horse motor.

Thanks for the info but I was hoping someone can tell the year from the photo. The motor is 3 hours away and I can't check the plate.

Re: Evinrude ID

Thanks that looks closer than anything I was able to dig up online.

Can someone tell me how to decode an 80s Evinrude model number, is it the same as for Johnson with the word Introduces or does Rude do something different? When I go to look at the motor I won't have internet access and the seller can't look for me beforehand so if I know the formula I can better tell what I'm looking at.

Did evinrude start with VRO in 85 the same as Johnson, would the remote oil tank be under the cowling or in the stern of the boat?

Thans again for the help.

Re: Evinrude ID

Both Johnson and Evinrude used the same "INTRODUCES" coding for model years 1980 thru 1998!

Looking at the parts diagrams for the 1985 70hp Evinrude motors, models E70ELCOS (electric start) and E70TLCOS (electric start and trim & tilt), there is a separate remote oil tank and VRO pump on both models.
