I got an Evinrude e140trlcsa from 1980, after many cranks finally the motor running. i did the timing with the TDC on the right position and the motor start on neutral position:D:D:D:D:D. but now i need set up the idle speed & the spark advance seting because it's running now under 1500 rpm and i think it should be 500 to 700 rpm. Could anybody give me idea how can i do these settings for this motor because i got the manual but for engine from 1992- 2001 and it turn alittle confuse to me:confused:

You should get yourself a 1980 OEM manual and follow the link and sync procedures step-by step. Without doing the l&s by-the-book for your model year, you're shooting in the dark.

The only timing you can set is max timing advance and that's done at WOT (use the Procedure outlined in the FAQ). Once you do the link and sync properly, you can make a simple adjustment to the idle set screw to put it at 600-700.

Edit: 600-700rpm is in gear and in the water. Neutral on the muffs shoot for something around 1100 or so and make final adjustments on the water.

thak you guys. But i have another question. Do i have to do the adjustment first for the timing advance under the flywheel. sorry I'm novice outboard mechanic, i bougth this boat from somebody that it never did any maintenance, just the body & the trailer were in good condition but i've been fixed everything, well at least doing my best effort, now the gauges, lights, builge pump working properly, the engine like i said finally running but i would like to know everything about those adjustment (8atdc for Idle & 17-19btdc)
i know that's mean with degrees on the flywheel but i don't know if this aplied for my engine. Could you guys explain me how ca i set up the spark advance to 4 dgrees and the timming at 24degrees.I precciate all your help
