EVINRUDE IGNITION PROBLEM

HI, I'M HAVING PROBLEMS DIAGNOSING WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY EVINRUDE 2001 FITCH INJECTED ENGINE. THE THING IS THAT THERE IS NO SPARK. HOWEVER, THERE IS JUICE GOING THROUGH THE PRIMARY LEAD(THE MECHANIC TESTED IT WITH A TIMING LIGHT). IN SHORT, ELECTRICITY GOES TO THE COIL PRIMARY, BUT NOTHING COMES OUT OF THE SECONDARY. THE COIL WORKS ON THE OTHER ENGINE JUST FINE. THE MECHANIC SAYS THE PROBLEM LIES IN THE EMM(THE COMPUTER), ALTHOUGH HE DID NOT CHECK ANYTHING ELSE. I JUST WANT TO BE POSITIVELY SURE THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE EMM, AND THAT MY PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. PLEASE HELP.

It will take some professional type work to isolate your problem. Just because the computer (REPLACE THE EMM) isn't giving a pulse does not mean it is that component that might have failed.<br /><br />Get a good manual, technical backround, or mechanic. <br /><br />Late model computer controlled motors can require some electronics training to repair.

I FORGOT TO ADD THAT THE ENGINE SUDDENTLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE I WAS TROLLING. ALSO THE MECHANIC SWITCHED IGNITION COILS AND CABLES TO THE COUNTER ROTATION ENGINE AND EVERYTHING WORKED WELL. ALSO I CHECKED MYSELF THE FUSES AND RELAYS,AND GRONUD, AND SWITCHED THEM FROM THE OTHER ENGINE AND EVERYTHING IS FINE THERE TOO. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IT GIVES IS OF OPEN COIL PRIMARY CODE #81 THROUGH<br />86.

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY YEPBLAZE. WHAT THE DEALER DID WAS CHECK EVERYTHING ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL, FOUND LOW VOLTAGE AT THE COILS, SWITCHED COMPUTERS FROM THE OTHER ENGINE, FOLLOWED TIMING AND SINCHRONIZATION STEPS, STARTED THE ENGINE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE COMPUTER WAS BAD INDEED. SO MUCH FOR THAT. NOW THE PROBLEM IS THAT HE SAYS BOMBARDIER DOES NOT SALE THE COMPUTERS ANYMORE, THEY JUST FIX THE ONES ONE HAS; THAT MEANS THAT I CAN'T HAVE A SPARE COMPUTER WHICH, IN TURN, MEANS THAT I HAVE TO BE A COUPLE OF WEEKS OFF THE WATER EACH TIME A COMPUTER FAILS--IM DEFINETLY SWITCHING BACK TO YAMAHA.

Ok, Let's be blunt,..... You need a mechanic who actually knows what he is doing! If he doesn't have 1) the manuals,2) the proper tools, 3) the ability to call Bomb... You're dealing with the wrong guy! You can buy a ECU/EMM from Bomb, and they can actually refer you to a company who repairs/inspects them (saving you the dollars of buying one you may not need)!!!! Has your mechanic actually been to a Ficht service school??
