Hi, Matrix.

How many times have you gotten and ignored advice here to get a Service Manual?

To paraphrase member Steelspike, "Anyone who tries to work on an outboard without a manual has a fool for a mechanic."

Trust, us. We do know what we are talking about.

We can help you use your Service Manual, but we can't be that manual.

Good luck. :)

Re: Evinrude impeller replacement

You'll have to drop the lower unit matrix.....easy enough.

Release the shift rod. To do this, look below and to the rear of the bottom carb. The shift lever is there. From the port side, you will see the shift rod being held to the lever slot by a pin bolt....3/8 head I think. Shift into forward to get the lever down....the use of a 1/4" drive socket set with a universal joint helps to remove the pin bolt. A bit of masking tape in the socket will hold the bolt so you don't drop it.

With the shift rod released, remove the trin tab and remove the bolt under it. Just forward of the trim tab is another long bolt to remove. Remove the four bolts just above the anti-cav plate (two on each side) and the lower unit will slip off. The impeller housing will be setting right on top of the lower unit. Four bolts secure it down.

EDIT: I might add, get the whole pump kit including housing....it comes with instructions on putting the pump together, but you still can't beat the manual. Search up Ken Cook Co. They sell reprints of the original OEM service manuals. It will pay for it'self in no time... :)

Hi Matrix,

Just finished this job myself and yes, I'm awaiting a manual as we speak.

The only additional tid bit I may suggest is if you have trouble getting at the pin bolt or don't have the 1/4" universal is to unhook the battery and remove the starter for easier access to the bolt as I did. Just my 2cents.

why not just go to online parts. They have complete parts diagrams and part numbers. You can even order these parts online if you want. Also the service manual does not give you part numbers. Follow the link below:

cheers!! ;)
