I have an Evinrude Lark 35 hp. When trying to start it the plugs do not always fire. On one plug it will spark really strong then not hit at all for 4 or 5 pulls. The other is similar only weak spark. When I have gotten into it the points were not set properly. My question is can I check the coils as well while its apart? I have to order a new woodruff key and would like to order the coils at the same time if need be. Thanks for any Help

Re: Evinrude Lark Coil Test

Off with the flywheel. Just have a look at the coils. If they look old, replace them. If they're cracked, replace them. Those coils are cheap, and you can get them right here on iboats.com. If it were me, I'd replace coils, points, condensers and plug wires. That way, you get a completely new ignition system that will last for decades.

One caution. If there's oil on the points, etc., you'll want to replace the upper crankshaft seal at the same time. It's not that difficult a job, really. If there's no oil, skip it.

You'll thank yourself after replacing the entire magneto. It's inexpensive, and you'll never have to worry about it again. Get the factory manual. Lots of good illustrations in it.
