Evinrude manual says no “premium” oil??

Evinrude oil wasn't marketed until 66 or 67. It was outboard oil or SAE 30 @50:1

40:1 should be okay right? Thats what my tank says and the oil should be better now (partial synthetic)

You can run 50:1. It is the spec for 1964. Is there a decal on the engine cowl explaining the gasil ratio?

Yes it said 40:1
Slightly off topic question. My motor is missing the lower part the shroud/cowl, leaving the engine exposed. The gas tank/ starter top part is still there but the lower half is gone. Is it necessary to replace it? Its kind of ugly this way but I Certainly can live with it...

40:1 was never a ratio specified by OMC. 50:1 was the ratio used/speced in 1964
