I have a 1972 2hp Evinrude Mate. The oil seal below the impeller has worn a groove in the driveshaft. There is also oxidation/surface rust in that area of the shaft. I can't find a speedi sleeve for that small a diameter (10.8 mm). Are there sleeves available for this? Any suggestions? I'd like to keep this motor going.

does water get in the GC...?

maybe best to look for a spare shaft or just change the oil mid season if it does leak
some welding shops can " blast" weld" the groove away $$$$ but not very cost effective on a 50 y old motor.

oil is cheaper :)

I've been keeping my eye out for a parts motor. When they come up for sale they sell really quick. I may take it to a local machine shop to see what they can do. It has some sentimental value to me so I don't mind spending a bit. What I was really hoping for was a speedi sleeve type repair, but I can't find any sleeves for this small of a shaft.

What I have done in the past is use old driveshaft ( have many of different sizes ) and machined my own thin wall sleeves ( 0.010" ) so original seal can be used..----Your location ?

It could be spray welded and turned back down to spec if you can find a good machine shop.

In Ontario----evinrudeparts.ca-----Might help you.
Evinrudeparts.ca did not have anything. I took the shaft to a local machine shop to get their thoughts on it. He said welding and machining was an option but the welding would warp the shaft, which I didn't want. He ended up polishing that part of the shaft. It came out great. I'll update the thread after testing it in a tank.

Great news.
If by chance it doesn’t work out.
There is a difference between welding and spray welding.
Spray welding is considered a cold process and should not warp the shaft. Hopefully the polishing will work out for you.

Good used driveshafts are not hard to find.----The same shaft was used year after year.
