I have not purchased any Brunswick product since they started that predatory, monopolistic practice. I will not.

Hey, I hate Brunswick too. But it is still a lund and they are by far the best boat in the world. Lund may be owned by Brunswick but they are still Lunds. Butttt... Merc engines on the other hand.... I'm a Johnny-Rude guy.

Yes they are expensive... But they are not overpriced. Strip one down and see why.

I think it is just your dealer. I have seen many Lunds with dealer installed E-tecs. Dealer buys a engineless boat and adds engine.

I'm with most everyone else. Regardless of what you are buying, having a dealer dictate something like what brand of motor goes on a different brand boat is ridiculous. I would feel like telling him to ____ off, but would probably just order the stripped boat and go elsewhere for the motor. Then I would TELL him I'm going elsewhere for the motor and let it sink in that he just blew a sale.
My Lund sports a Johnson.

leasure with Brunswick that you can only have Merc on their boat. I know we have been mainly talking about
Evinrude,but what about Johnson? That is another motor
of choice if I couldn't get the 'Rude for whatever reason.

I can't believe this is as serious a problem as you are making it out to be (and I'm not being nasty). I see Lund boats with Evinrude & Johnson motors all the time. Only a company destined for oblivion would force a dealer to "install" a Merc on what is essentially a "no pre-rig" boat to start with. I've run into dealers that don't sell engines separately which is another stupid business practice and that dealer is now gone. I wonder why! This policy would say that should I love my boat and simply want to repower it, I can't. It was Yamaha in this specific case. My next visit to a nearby Lund/Alumacraft dealer will put your situation to the test. I suspect I can order any Lund powered with any engine I want. This dealer handles them all. That may happen this weekend and I'll report back.

They are basically the same engine underneath the cover. 'Rudes just seem to be more popular and have different available horsepowers. My lund has a '71 50 horse Johnson.

Johnson doesn't make anything comparable to an E-tec.

Get what you want. E-tec.

The dealer I had in mind doesn't sell Lund but has about everything else including every brand of engine. He did have a number of newer Lunds taken in trade that were fitted with Evinrudes, Johnsons, Yamaha, Merc and Honda. These boats aren't more than a couple years old so those engines are getting installed somewhere.

I'm not a boat dealer; so I'm certainly not privy to thier price sheets; but I would not be surprised if Brunswick offers "package pricing" on their Lund-Mercury outfitted boats.

In other words, there could be discounted pricing to the dealer if he buys the Lund boat and a Merc engine together.

If your dealer does indeed sell the boat without engine...get a price quote on it. Then; get another quote on the Merc engine. It could be that those two added up might be more than the quote for the combo. It doesn't keep you from buying...but from the dealer's point of view...he might feel that he can give you a better deal by buying them together.

It sounds like some of you here are Lund/Merc dealers...so maybe someone can confim this.

Guys,I sure do appreciate your input into this matter. I
am sticking to my guns and going with Evinrude/Johnson
and no one is going to stop me from buying either motor.
I have finally made up my mind,and have decided that the only Lund I can afford,...after I get the camper sold,
is the Lund A-14 Utility V bottom boat,trailer,cover,and
15 hp Johnson two stroke outboard. Good news is I found a dealer who will get me the Johnson and install it.
Yes,I wanted the bigger Lund SSV-16,but it was not going to work financially. Only the A-14 will be able to
work out for me. "Take that, Brunswick,a Johnson is going
on my next A-14 whether you like it or not.!"

If you can only afford a 14 footer. Why not buy a used SSV-16. Boats lose a whole lot of value as soon as they are taken off the lot so a slightly used one will cost a lot less than a new one.
