I have a 90 hp Evinrude that will only run if the key is pushed in or the schrader valve is operated. Fuel is a little old but I put fuel treatment in it. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Probably have gummed-up high speed jets in the carburetors. Old gas causes that. It is vital that you clean them and get that stuff out because starving for gas can destroy the powerhead.
Thanks for the help. I'm going to put fresh fuel in tomorrow. The bulb is a little soft after pumping. If carbs are gummed up, can I just spray carb cleaner in them? Thanks.
You need to take them off and rebuild them properly. Carb cleaner down the throat does nothing but wash all the oil off the interior parts of the powerhead.
I replaced the bulb today. It had a small tear in it that i noticed when draining the fuel out. It is now nice and firm. Put the new fuel in and now can get it to idle somewhat. Also noticed that one of the plug wires is dry-rotted and is not making a good connection. I am going to replace that Monday when boat dealer opens if I can't find one sooner at auto parts store. This forum is really a gold mine of information. Thanks.
