Hi there,

The new Johnsons and Evinrudes, according to the rumor mill, are very good engines. The Johnson is carbed and the Evinrude has direct fuel injection along with some other technical perks. The Johnson would probably much easier to work on yourself where as the rude may require a tech to check out problems that may occur. Other guys with more expertise will probably give you even more info than I but that is the major difference between the two engines.

..both are owned by Bombardier and both are up for sale, includind Sea-Doo. Bombardier is trying to sell its recreational division to generate cash so that it can focus on its transportation business. Too bad, it seems as though Bomb was turnng these two shoddy brands around.

For my two cents worth, i think you should get on www.evinrude.com and look at their website. Check out both sides. They do have good warranties on them and are greatly improved over what OMC had in the last few years of their existence. Bombardier has done great wonders with these engines and are making a comeback. I suggest that any rumors concerning them selling should check their website on this also. They are not selling, and if so, it will be within the Bombardier family. It is not up on the market for someone else. That was as of May 22. He is right on the evinrude. If you do ;your own work, you will need a computer and software to go along with it and it takes a highly trained tech to figure them out. I am fortunate to have one that is. Good luck on your purchase and keep a tight line.

both are fine engines with no issues of reliability buy either and youll be happy as for maintenece to johnston will be easier the the evinrude and the price should be a bit cheaper. If you plan on owning the engine for a long long time I would bite teh bullet and buy the evinrude
