people in mass are very gullable and easily convinced.

" 4 stroke" is the "new" "IN" thing in outboards now. 2 stroke is decades old.

BUT......

anybody with a true mechanical aptitude and a hold on what things are and what really makes things work in and on and around boats.... why would you want MORE weight, MORE moving parts, MORE maintenence.

for all of the features that yamaha and all other 4 stroke outboard makers use as their claim over 2 strokes, you can get all of them and more in a new direct injection 2 stroke such as tohatsu or evinrude.

BUT, in addition to a quiter motor, no smoke, smoother operation, better fuel effieciency.... you get all this and MORE with a direct injection 2 stroke such as a tohatsu or an evinrude . you get less moving parts and you get less weight.

if you want to explore something, go explore the new(er) merc verado.

its a 4 stroke( so what, its supercharged)
they get awfull gas milage and are WAYYYYYY heavier than anything else out there and have WAYYYYYY more moving parts than anything else out there. honestly, seriously, to an outboard boater, what advantage do they have other than the WOW factor? if you own one, email me, im seriously curious.

mikeIt seem that if it were true that people would be all over the Evinrude.
from the owners ive spoken to online and from my local dealer. im very close with him. i spend lots of money there. lots of torqure, yes, great gas milage????? its supercharged.....

thats why i asked, seriously, if you have one, email me directly.Where does your awfull gas milage statement come from?
not in my boat, never!

ive run other peoples boats with them and ive seen others run by me and ran around with, but as for actuall ownership. sorry, not in my boat buddy!!!!

ive run 4 stroke 4 runners and 2 stroke 4 runners, both of the 300(ish) engine size, i think one was a 300 and one was a 330...hmmm... but guess which one kick soo much more azz than the other, it wasnt the 4 stroke.

i say this from actual ownership and runnership. im not just going by the ad's these companies spit out at me.

i currently have 7 boats, and 13 outboards. the only 4 stroke outboard i have is a 1999 mariner 9.9. i also have a 1988 2 stroke 9.9 evinrude, and it COMPLETELY RUNS CIRCLES around the mariner. plus its about 30 pounds lighter.

as i said before, people in mass are very gullable. i do all my own work, im the owner and operater of MYOUTBOARDS outboard repair, and i will never own a 4 stroke outboard on my own boat. i have the 9.9 mariner just cause it was from a friend. its no big deal, however a 500 or 600 pound v6 on my boat is way different. never

these are all just my opinions, im not telling youi or anybody what to buy or use, im just giving up some information that ive acumulated over the years.

i still stick by the thought that a new 4 stroke doesnt offer anything a new direct injection 2 stroke cant!Originally posted by scotty c:
bet you have never owned a 4-stroke phatman....
That's a misconception: the oil is burnt in the combustion chamber. Afterall, would the EPA really give an award to an outboard that dumped raw oil in the water?
If you don't belive me, you can look up the CARB emissions data for yourself. It's all on their web-site.
As for 4-stroke outliving 2-strokes, I don't know where you find this. Honestly, I don't even know how you could compare the two. It's hardly a fair comparison, but it seems to me that outboards last just as long (in engine hours), if not longer than I/Os.
I don't mean to start a war here, but I think Sandy deserves correct information. They're still spitting that oil out somewhere...into the air and water.
