Check for good fuel flow. check for loose hose connections that may let air into your lines. check and replace old fuel filters. is your gas tank vented ? I recomend installing a clear glass fuel filter with replaceable elements in a horizontal position under the cowling (i got mine at wally world), this lets you see fuel flow and gives you an idea of how well your fuel pumps are working. It also lets you see and crap that has gotten past your main fuel/water sepperator/filter.

What is the model number of your 140? It will make it easier to help you.

If compression and spark are ok, it has to be a fuel delivery problem. When you overhauled the carbs did you remove all the orifices and make sure they were clean? What's your model number?
