Evinrude Power Tilt Power Trim

Hello guys,
Does anyone know where I can find the part number for this motor? The motor is bad and I don't see a part number on it that makes sense. I believe it is a older universal tilt and trim but it is connected to my 73 Evinrude 50HP. Any help is appreciated.

Looks like an obsolete prestolite motor.

If you search prestolite you might find some threads that discuss this motor. If I remember someone here was retrofitting a volvo pump to these units.

Another option might be to see if it could be rebuilt at a starter generator shop.

Thank 64osby!

I found a replacement for the motor and reservoir, but I have not been able to find a replacement pump assembly. Do you know how I can test to make sure the pump assembly is good. I don't want to throw money out the window replacing the motor if that is not the cause.

When I had one that was never put on a boat, it was bench tested. All connections elec and fluid were hooked up and connected to a battery.

Hit the switch and see what happens. On mine everything worked. You should be able to tell if your motor and pump is working.

I needed to test mine (note it is the newer version). The pump is driven by a hex shaft between the motor and pump. I put an appropriate hex bit in a cordelss drill and was able let the drill stand in for the motor. I could then run the ram in and out.

Depending on what drives your pump you may be able to do the same.

Thanks guy for the help. The motor works after a few taps with a hammer. The pump will hold the motor in the air without loosing pressure and falling. I think the problem is isolated to the motor. I found a motor for $139. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Help!! I was finally able to replace my tilt and trim motor. I have everything back together. The new motor works, but it is really slow when going up. When lowering the motor, the everything seems to work fine. I have also noticed that the new motor gets too hot. After raising and lowering the outboard, the trim motor and wiring are hot to the touch. There are three wires on the new motor, blue, green and black. The wiring harness has 4 wires, blue green black and brown. The brown wire was previously connected to the trim cylinder. I am not sure what that is supposed to do but it does not seem to do anything. Does anyone have any idea why the trim motor is running slow or why it gets hot to the touch?
