I have a evinrude 9.5 sportwin 1967 and im having trouble with it loosing power with the cowel on. When i pull the cowel off it runs PERFECT,but when i put the cowel on ,it bogs and looses power. I know about the leaky seal that allows exhaust in and can choke the motor,so what i did was filled up the gasket with water to make a good seal and it still does the same thing,so i know its not that troublesome gasket. It was smoking quite a bit,do you think that it could be sucking in the fumes from the outside of the motor and choking it? Where exactly does this motor suck in the fresh air? I dont really see a opening for fresh air? And where does the exhaust come out at?Same place as the water spout? Also the lean/rich knob is missing, which would allow the adjustment to spin further than it should,so how would i know the origional adjustment range of the knob so i keep it within the safty zone. Other than that ,it runs excellent, responsive and smooth as long as the cowel is off.
