I own a 1970 evinrude lark with selectric controls, mode# 40072. while it was running its uddenly died and the throttle got jammed, after removing the fly wheel i found that a distributor of one of the coils came of and smashed the bracket holding the spark plug wire, causin them to get jammed by the flywheel, is this a common problem, and will it still run properly, if the bracket holding the wires is broken. ps sorry it was a long story.
I believe that bracket on your Lark also acts as the stop for the spark advance. It hits a tab that sticks out of the top of the block.
If that stop isn't there, then you'll run too much advance at over 3/4 throttle. That will cause sever piston damage.
Best to get a new bracket. Try Twin City Outboards. I can't imagine they would want much for one.
I use loctite blue on ignition components' screws for just that reason. If things come loose under there, things get bad really quick.
Iboats or NAPA autoparts can supply a new coil. Iboats wants around $17 for one.
Yep, 50:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 rated outboard oil.
OMC HiVis/SAE 90w outboard gearcase oil (Canadian Tire or Walmart).
Plugs are Champion J6C gapped at .030" (original spec J6J is no longer available)

Get it fixed yet?
I tried it this sumer, and it started and run good, but it was running weird, because at high throtter, it was going really slow as if and stuttering as if starving for gas.
