Evinrude propshaft shimming question

I have an E50BELCOB, 1985 50hp that I am rebuilding the lower unit on. Everything is apart and ready for assembly, but I'm having a difficult time with the shimming specifications. The service manual calls for OMC special shimming tool #320739, which I cannot find ANYWHERE. However, I've been told that shimming tool #328366 with Collar #328363 is the replacement. Can anyone confirm that? Does anyone have experience with this process? I've placed my driveshaft with the thrust washer/bearing and the original shims in the holder and with tool #328366, I have about 1/8 of clearance. That seems like something is wrong.

I can't confirm or deny them numbers...
I has book for the next series after yours.
I can however say quick internet search showed availability of the 2nd part numbers you posted.

But while I could find stuff about the 1st part number I did not find the part available.

I know in desperation in the past I have checked ebay adds one after the other fora hopefully poorly listed part number I needed...and found it this way. True enough it's the caveman version of web search. But.... not everyone posting an item for sale on ebay knows what numbers to put in the search or which info is important.

I'll poke around a bit more and hopefully one of the more senior and knowledgeable folks will pop up and have the answer as offhand knowledge... it never ceases to impress me how much knowledge is here.

I have the second set of tools that I've listed. I've set them up and gauge the tolerances. However, (Pardon the pun) the shaft seems a bit long, maybe 1/8" inch. The tool for the Short 15" shaft model is a perfect fit with ZERO clearance... To hense my doubt. (I have the Long shaft.)

Well I'm hoping Racerone shows up .... I often don't like what he tells me when I ask questions (cause he has the habit of giving a good experienced answer which incidently means no shortcuts for me) but he flat out knows his stuff. There are a couple others of similar knowledge who may choose to bless you with their knowledge.

There is no difference in shimming a short , verses a long driveshaft.----Blunt statement.----You are confused / doing something wrong.

Here is the info sheet I downloaded referencing the new tool numbers in regards to the specific motors. Someone told me to use Collar #328363 & Gauge #328366, but I now see that this is not correct for my motor. I have an '85 Evinrude 50HP, long shaft (E50BELCOB). If Im reading this sheet correctly, I should be using Collar 328361 and Gauge 328365/328364. PROBLEM: Collar 328361 doesn't fit all the way down the shaft....it leaves about 1/16" gap (see pictures) I can hold the top bearing housing off the collar for fit, but the gap remains.

I have read that once I gauge/shim to ZERO CLEARANCE, I need to remove .007 of shims for proper fit. I see that the gauges 328365 & 328364 are actually .007 different. Im assuming that I can shim to the longer and remove .007 of shim to achieve the shorter, correct fit. NOTE: these pictures are with the old bearings in place. I have and will replace all the bearings for final assembly. Am I on the right track? Thank you in advance.
