I have a 1992 evinrude intruder .the motor runs great out on the lake but everytime i go to start the engine it will crank and run at a high rpm.the motor should idle down after the motor warms up but it doesn't.I have replaced the thermostats and fixing to replace the engine head temp.senser to see if that will correct the problem.if anyone on this forum has had this happen or if anyone knows of a solution i would be greatly thankful for any and all information that could help me.

You really need to do some troubleshooting.
The stator and power pack at involved in the circuit

Throwing parts at the problem will get pricy in a hurry

Don't forget to check the actual operating temp of the engine. An infrared gun works best (top of the heads). Maybe it's running cold. (incoming cold water temp when testing at home on a flusher probably doesn't help the troubleshooting.)

Ground the wht/blk from pack to the block. if it comes out after starting the sensor or temp on that cylinder has a problem. Quickstart will always be engaged when started but should drop out in a few seconds on a hot warm engine.
