Yeah, the 6039 Speeditwins were raced for a few years, mostly in marathon type races. The Mercury Mark 30H obsoleted them in 1956. Earlier versions of the Speeditwin (pre-WWII) were much better racing motors and some models were actually built for racing. The post WWII Speeditwins were service motors that happened to be raced, and would certainly not be categorized as racing motors.<br /><br />That said, they are good, solid motors. Most of them, if stored properly and in decent condition, won't take much to fire off. I've got one myself - planes my 14-foot tin can with ease and barks a bit when I pull that circular plug out of the middle of the exhaust tank...<br /><br />- Scott
