I am getting ready to start this motor for the 1st time since I received it and have read of issues people have encounterede when not dialing in to the correct setting. Can anyone suggest the best position I should keep the dial when starting it up for the 1st time? Want to make sure I don't break it before I use it. Thanks in advance! :D

It would take more than that to break it. If it will start and run, dial it in to where it runs the best at high speed.

That doesn't look like a sportwin, it looks like a lightwin. (and a gawd awful colored one at that!) What model # is it?

Wow. Well you learn something everyday. That engine is a 1950 3.3hp. And they did call it a Sportwin. Then they stopped using that term in '51 and then it came back as the 10hp from 56 on...

Can't tell if you have one jet or two on the front of the carb to adjust. If you have two, do this: seat both gently by turning clockwise until they stoop, turn bottom (high speed) out counterclockwise 3/4 of a full turn; turn top jet/know out 1 and 1/2 half turns. That should get it started. Then run the throttle up to fast and adjust the bottom knob (high speed knob) a little until it runs best, throttle down and let it warm up, then adjust the top knob (slow speed jet) until it runs smooth at slow and idle. Those are the sweet spots. Then tighten down the nuts around the jets (behind knobs) and you're good to go. Keep that size wrench and wide blade screwdriver in your boat kit for future adjustments if they get out of whack.
