I'm posting this for a friend... He's got a broken plastic throttle linkage. He can't get the old one (broken one) out and needs some help finding the replacement part too. Here is what he has to say:

Does anyone know of good outboard engine repair shop in Tallahassee, specifically for evinrudes. I've got an old school (pre-1990;post1976) Evinrude SportWin with a snapped throttle linkage. I've tried my best to get the part out so I can work on it, but one of the bolts seems to be pretty well STUCK, with no intent on budging. I even went out and bought one of those gator grips....no success. Any help is greatly appreciated....

Re: Evinrude Sportwin Throttle Linkage...

I'm the guy with the problem, and I've got a little more information....BTW Thanks Dukes.....

Alright, So the piece that snapped is about 6-8 in long, and it's plastic with two square pegs on each side. I've ordered the part, and now face an even more challenging dilemma. I've been trying to remove the housing which is bolted to the main frame of the engine, and encases the area where the throttle and the linkage meet. It seems to be held together by bolt and nut. I've had no trouble loosening the nut, but I can't seem to get it off all the way. I can get it about 3/4 of the way off, but then it wont come any farther because the teeth from the linkage are in the way. I've tried loosening the bolt, which in a very precarious position right next to the Electrical harness on the engine, but it just won't budge. It is very difficult to describe, and I will be posting pictures to further explain my problem. I know once I remove this bolt, my problem will be solved, and I should be able to easily replace the piece.

Here is a picture of the housing, which I'm trying to remove. The piece that broke is on the far right, and kind of difficult to see. It's right under the writing "outboard" and it's got a little blue paint on it.

This is the nut that I am able to loosen, but once it gets 3/4 of the way off, those teeth get in the way

and here is the Bolt that it is attached to that seems to be stripped, and just won't budge. I've tried everything to get it off, but it is in a really weird spot, and nothing seems to do the trick. Any suggestions?

As you can see, very difficult spot to reach, and Even my gator grip all in one ratchet can't loosen it. It's too big for the small area.....

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, as I have exhausted myself trying to loosen this stripped bolt.....Thanks in advance

Re: Evinrude Sportwin Throttle Linkage...

Okay, now that I see the nut and bolt in question here... I have an idea...

You can turn the nut but the bolt won't turn? Can you (from the nut side), pry the bolt backwards once you have loosened it using a screwdriver, then continue working on the nut? If you go this route, I'd be sure to SOAK that bolt with PB Blaster and let it sit before trying to pry it. Be careful not to damage the teeth/gears with whatever you pry with!

This will/might break the bolt loose from the housing and allow you to remove it...

Great post though... Pictures really help a LOT!!!!
