I have a friend that has a 1962 Evinrude Sportwin 10 HP, and he is not sure of the oil mixuture. On this motor is it 50:1 or 24:1? Thanks

Brent

Re: Evinrude Sportwin

If I remember well, the 1:24 mix was made up with sae 30 oil like the stuff you pour into a car engine.
With a high grade two-stroke oil you can safely use a 1:32 mix.
These old engines do like this mix much better than 1:50.This has to do with different types of bearing technology being used, but schematic would be better at explaining the fine points.
In case of doubt pour in more rather than less oil.The engine may smoke but she wont set up on you like she does when there is not enough oil in your mix
good luck.
