Evinrude stalls at full throttle

I have a 1980 Evinrude outboard which runs great except at full throttle. Somewhere around 4000rpm the motor will only run for a few seconds then it starts to stall like its running out of gas. If I back off on it before it stalls it will eventually recover only to stall again at full throttle. Is this a dirty carb, fuel pump or is something wrong with my fuel tank?

EJ,<br /><br />Look at the simple stuff first.<br /><br />1. Does the fuel primer bulb collapse when the problem occurs?<br /><br />2. Does it make a difference if you run the engine with the fuel cap loose?<br /><br />Let us know.
