Hello,

I have come into possession of this motor and am trying to find out the year (I'm guessing mid 60's).

Model # : 90593C
Ser. # : E03749

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Re: the motor: It seems to be locked up and I will try and unfreeze with SeaFoam or liquid wrench. It has the electric shift also (pretty sure). Does anyone have experience with these motors in good running condition and are there any particulars about these motors that make them popular, good, bad or different? Thanks for the replies.

2cycle -
Evinrude 90593
Year: 1965
HP: 90
WOT RPMS: 4500
Displacement: 89.5 cu.in. = 1466.6 ccm
Cyl config: V-4
Weight: 242 lbs. = 109.8 Kg
Gearcase ratio: 20:23
Fuel/Oil mix: 50:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 oil.
Gearcase lube: If electric shift, only OMC/BRP 'Premium Blend' gearcase oil.
Spark plugs: Champion J4C gapped at .030"
Picture
From the Old OMC Site

I'm pretty sure the 90hp was electric shift only then. It was the top of the line motor in '65.

Use some sort of penetrating oil rather than Seafoam to free up the rings. Give it a few turns feeling for binding or roughness before you start it.

EDIT: Looks like I'm the slow-poke today!

Re: Evinrude Starflite 90 - What year?

Mr. Moir and Cotterman,

Thanks a lot for all the specs and helpful info.

I put some Marvel Mystery oil in all 4 cylinders and found that it will turn freely for about 1/4 turn of the flywheel each way, but will bind up after that. The LU is in neutral (the prop shaft turns freely) so I was wondering about the possibility of the drive shaft potentially contributing to the binding (Is this possible?). Would it be advisable to remove the lower unit when trying to unfreeze it?

PS. Re: the picture of the motor from the old OMC site - that was one classic looking motor I must say.

Yes, it is adviseable. With the electric shift, if you're in neutral you're just turning the propshaft with the propeller. With the flywheel you're turning all three gears in there.
I belive you disconnect the shift wires after dropping the lower unit a bit.

If that doesn't help, you might need to remove the heads to see what's going on in there.
