I purchased a Fiberform boat yesterday knowing that the motor and controls both mechanical and electrical needed to be hooked up. The guy that I bought the boat from said that the motor was not original to this boat. But he did say that the motor ran fine on the boat that he removed it from. I need to be able to hook everything up "properly" so I need to get a manual for it. My question is this. It is a 4 cylinder motor, obviously old, but how do I know what year the motor is? I just found a tag on it that says the model is 90483S Can anyone help me?

You won't always see any tags, just look for numbers stamped into the transom mount or in the general vicinity, post whatever number you may find on here and we should be able to decipher it

Or you may find the serial number on a freeze plug on the block.

I did find a tag when I was looking at tags for the boat itself. It was a model 90483S and serial number E05117 if that helps.

Re: Evinrude Starflite 90s

so I need to get a manual for it.

The link below will get you to a free, online public library that has non-factory service manuals saved in pdf format. While the "factory" manuals are more complete, this should help you get started with your project. Good luck!

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=393281

After you LOGIN, drill down to: Small Engine, Marine/Boat Motors, Evinrude/Johnson, Outboard 100HP Models or Outboard 90HP Models and click on Condensed Service Data. The 90&100 files are the same manual that covers both models for the years 1964-1968. I have a 1968 Johnson 100HP and may be able to help you a little but I am not an expert!

Here's a link to an OMC Parts Catalog. It will help you to have the original part number when you are chasing parts for that great old motor.
