evinrude tiller question

i'm looking at buying a 96 evinrude 40 tiller with a push button, not key, start (located back of the tiller arm). the current owner mentioned that it is hard starting on cold mornings and would have to remove the engine cover to choke it as it has no external choke lever. could it have some type of automatic choking system that is malfunctioning and if so, is this a common problem? any help appreciated.

It has a primer button if it's like my slightly older model. CRS won't let me remember where it is. I think the engine housing, right side.<br />Mine can be a bit touchy to start when cold until you get the system down.<br />On mine squeeze bulb on tank, push primer button for 3 to 5 seconds, set the throttle to a real fast idle, start cranking, press primer a bit as it starts to fire.<br />You might need to hit primer a bit & play w/ idle for a few minutes until it warms.<br />It can flood if too much primer is used.<br />Good plugs set properly should help too.<br />Edit: It came back to me. Primer is large button at the base of the tiller. Start button below it on the side of shifter. Tilt/trim on the side.<br />I guess by boat's been sitting covered up to long.
